Vital Tested: Doga
Our NY editor teaches her pooch to nama-stay.
My dog Zooey and I do almost everything together: run errands, shop, travel. So when I heard about Doga from East Yoga and Bideawee, I had to try it.
The class was led by Kari Harendorf and her husky-mix, Charlie. Although you go through basic yoga poses--sometimes using your dog for balance as you would a block--the main purpose is to connect with your pooch.
I've never done yoga with tots but I imagine the atmosphere is not so different from Doga. Most of the canines, including one puppy bulldog, a couple Malteses and a collie, were more interested in sniffing each others', um, asanas than staying on their mats. But that was part of the fun.
Zooey, for her part, was pretty aloof (or a-woof). She looked at me with an expression (like the one pictured) that seemed to say, "Seriously?"
But in the end, I think we both felt happier and more relaxed. Our verdict: Bow-wow!
The next Doga classes will be on May 13th, May 27th, and June 10th. Call 212-532-4986 to reserve a spot.
