Best Buds

Send to a friend

Guess which veggie is cropping up on menus all around town?

Brussels sprouts, those leafy green buds you snubbed as a kid, have replaced broccoli, spinach and asparagus as chefs' side dish du jour. We spotted tasty versions of the pint-sized cabbage (rich in folate and fiber) on plenty of menus:

At West Village wine bar Gottino, you can order a light Brussels sprout salad with pecorino cheese and walnuts. 52 Greenwich Ave., (212) 546-7892, MAP

• For a slightly sweet spin on the sprouts, try the tapas offering at Alta. The chef serves them tender yet crispy with crème fraîche, Fuji apples and pistachios. 64 W. 10th St., (212) 505-7777, MAP

Actress Natalie Portman is a fan of the Brussels sprouts with grapes, fig purée, walnuts and mint at Mediterranean eatery Ilili. 236 5th Ave., (212) 683-2929, MAP

• Head to Park Slope's localvore hot spot, Get Fresh Table and Market, for a savory and satisfying side. Co-chef Mark Simmons (the Kiwi from Top Chef Season 4) prepares his sprouts with pork belly. 370 5th Ave., (718) 360-8469, MAP
