Get Whiff'd Away
A new Chelsea store puts Paris, Italy, the beach and more in a bottle.
Tucked on a non-descript street in Chelsea you'll find The Good Home Co., a just-opened shop that offers sweet-smelling kitchen, bath and cleaning products from lavender-scented clothespins to 100% organic hand sanitizer.
Owner Christine Dimmick combined her small-town Ohio history with her love of Provence to create a charming, rustic space. Behind an antique apothecary cabinet we discovered a potpourri blending bar:
Follow your nose. Choose from a slew of highly-concentrated fragrances, including pure grass, summer rain, and Paris--which has a heady and bold floral smell. (Think Catherine Deneuve.)
Mix it up. Once you settle on a scent, select unscented dried flowers, sticks and sprigs to add in. The potpourri starts at $15 for two cups, and includes 1/4 oz. of fragrance for when the odor fades.
Contain yourself. Because the fragrance is so concentrated, Dimmick suggests keeping the potpourri in a metal, glass or ceramic container. (It can stain wood, or erode plastic.)
Makes good scents to us.
