Out to Lunch

Send to a friend

Hold our calls. We're heading to Blue Dog.

A lot of midtown lunch spots are for the dogs. But when you're ravenous (see photo), you'll settle for anything. Luckily, Team Vital Juice, who calls midtown home, has discovered a spot that's doggone good: Blue Dog Cafe. The Flatiron eatery has opened a new and improved spot on 56th St. Here are our picks:

• Early-risers can grab a bowl of hot oatmeal to eat al desko. One VJ staffer loves it with apples and walnuts, or choose from other toppings like raisins, bananas and brown sugar.

• Blue Dog serves up crisp salads and regulars swear by their 7-grain bread. (Trim the fat off the BLT by swapping turkey bacon for the real kind and going easy on the chipotle mayo.)

• Feel petered out by 3PM? Quaff a fresh pressed juice to re-energize. Try the Spring Awakening with pineapple, pear, apple and mint.

VJ verdict: Bow wow!
