Vital Tested: JackRabbit's Shoe Fitting
Our NY editor gears up for fall.
Experts say running shoes should be replaced every 600 miles--usually about every six months for most people. A year into her latest pair of sneakers, our NY editor finally decided it was time to upgrade. (Her new fall boots will have to wait.)
She went to sporty superstore JackRabbit, where a high-speed video records you running on a treadmill so shoe-fitting experts can analyze your gait.
The verdict: She's a neutral runner, which means she only needs moderate arch support. Her top kicks (pictured from upper left): New Balance 758, Brooks Ghost 2, Saucony ProGrid Ride 2, and Brooks Defyance 2.
Although she liked the look of the New Balance best, the Brooks Ghost 2 was a shoe-in with support around the arch and a just-right cushiony fit.
And at $100 even, she had no problem footing the bill.
