Want to be a vixen on Valentine's? Go on, sling a little MUD.

That is, LA-based MUD Cosmetics, a swoonworthy line of lead-free lipsticks (a big deal since an 2009 FDA study of 20 lipsticks found traces of lead in every single tested product).

We turned to MUD's creative director, Yvonne Hawker, for the most alluring lip trends for 2012:

• Barely there. Flesh tones will be hot this year. To try the understated come-hither look, Hawker suggests pairing tones like natural, nude, or warm brown with just a hint of lip gloss.
• Bold and beautiful. For daring divas, wine-stained lips with a matte finish will be all the rage. To make a bold "kiss me" statement, select deep, shimmer-free shades like burgundy, brick, or crimson.
