Stand up.

Sitting down for extended periods can be as dangerous for your health as smoking or overexposure to the sun.

TRUE.

Research supports a link between sitting time and obesity, type 2 diabetes, and risk factors for cardiovascular disease. In fact, a recent study found an increased risk of mortality in women who reported more than six hours per day of sitting (outside of work).

"The message is clear: you must move--and move frequently--to maintain health... Even people who just break up their sitting time by walking to a friend's house rather than e-mailing her, for instance, have a lower risk of diabetes."
