Meet Us Here
Don't love meat? Chew on this.
We were never big carnivores. But lately, we're looking at meat in a new way.
A way that looks and smells exactly like our favorite veggies.
The soon-to-open Beverly Hills restaurant "Meet" will serve nothing but meat...shaped, scented and flavored just like produce (pictured). Imagine ground beef carrots. Turkey tomatoes. Even a salad we'd swear came from the farmers' market--but it's made entirely of pork.
Founder Lalif Roop was a longtime vegan when she returned from a trip to India with a parasite and a gluten allergy. Meat was one of the only things her body would tolerate, but the thought of it turned her stomach. So she enlisted her food chemist brother to help make it more palatable. (He's now up for an award.)
"It's perfect for people who require meat's benefits, but don't want the look, smell or taste of it," says Roop.
