The Pet Yenta Gives her Hiking Tips

Enjoy the dog days of summer with these Pet Yenta-approved treks.

Want a hike that will make you wag your tail? Just ask Victoria Rosenthal, Pet Yenta: the LA-based animal trainer knows the best hikes for your dog's disposition. Of course, anyone can hit the trails--no pup required.

If your dog is...TIMID:
For a calm setting and diverse terrain, go to Griffith Park. "Your animal needs to 'check in' for reassurance," notes Rosenthal. So be prepared to pause often, perfect for catching your breath on the steep Mount Hollywood Trail.

If your dog is...PLAYFUL:
Dog parks can overstimulate an excitable pet, says Rosenthal. Instead, visit the two-mile, car-free Chandler Bikeway in Burbank where you and your pooch can kibitz with others.

If your dog is...TYPE A:
Alpha Fidos do better off the leash when they can relax and run. Head to Runyon Canyon where there's plenty of turf for your pup to explore independently.

Oy--it's a dog's life.
