Sprouts Farmers Market just opened in Culver City.

Find out if Sprouts really offers great savings.

In case you haven't heard, Sprouts Farmers Market has opened in Culver City. Touted as a more affordable Whole Foods, it inspired us to do some comparative shopping. The results: 

Conventional seedless watermelon
Sprouts: .19¢/lb. 
Whole Foods: .49¢/lb.

California-grown Hass avocados
Sprouts: .69¢ each
Whole Foods: 2 for $3

Bulk veggie chips (carrots, squash, taro, green beans and sweet potato slices)
Sprouts: $6.99/lb.
Whole Foods: $9.99/lb.

Tamari almonds
Sprouts: $5.99/lb. (not organic)
Whole Foods: $8.99/lb. (organic)

Verdict: Pound for pound, Sprouts may offer a better bargain, but Whole Foods may still prevail when it comes to organic finds and prepared foods.
