Amy Lam demonstrates flagging.

This exercise makes us fluttery.

When we told a friend about flagging, he asked, "You mean...like in clubs?"

Yep. Clubgoers may spot it on dance floors, but "flagging" is a workout that's done by twisting and spinning bright, silk flags to music (see the video here). It can be traced back to Japanese fan dancing and Polynesian "poi". Teacher Amy Lam (pictured) fell in love with flagging's easy-to-pick-up moves. What the class can give you:

Arms you'll wanna wave. The flags are weighted to help them flow, so you'll be sculpting your upper bod as you learn the moves.

Colorful cardio. Flagging gets the heart racing through constant motion.

Meditative motion. Devotees say the flags are so captivating that they forget they're exercising, and can dance for hours (class is two hours long).

When the sun sets, Amy switches on black lights and the flags glow.

That's a banner day.

Flagging with Amy Lam (aka Sat Prem Kaur), $20, next class is June 12, 5PM at Danceism, 511 Molino St., Los Angeles; sign up for the Meetup group here
