Cane Cleanse

Send to a friend
Raw cane juice makes a great virgin mojito.

This cleansing juice is surprisingly sugary.

Like us, you've probably heard about cutting out sugar to detox. So our eyebrows rose when we read about Raw Cane SuperJuice's "Fortify Detox Elixir," a blend of Cali-sourced cane, lemon, lime, cayenne and ginger, pressed fresh in Echo Park. It's becoming an underground sensation among fasting fans: One says she lost a pound a day on it.

It's nutritious. Unlike processed sugar, raw cane juice is rich in riboflavin, an immune system supporter that's also great for skin, hair and nails. (And it makes a great virgin mojito, as shown.)

It's not a rush. Raw cane juice is only about a 40 on the glycemic index (table sugar has an index of 80), meaning it won't make you soar and crash.

It's a master cleanser. To make the elixir, the creators took the popular Master Cleanser recipe, and replaced maple syrup with raw cane juice. To try, mix 3 parts water with 1 quart (2 bottles) of "Fortify Detox Elixir" (it's super spicy taken straight!). Drink one gallon over one day of fasting. Check out more how-to and benefits here

Want an easier cleanse? The creators suggest replacing your usual breakfast with the elixir, for up to one week. (Check with your doctor first.)

Sweet deal.

They're opening a storefront soon at 5301 W. Sunset Blvd.--until then, get the juice fresh-pressed at the Saturday Silver Lake Farmers' Market and Sunday Hollywood Farmers' Market or bottled at Erewhon and at the Fairfax Whole Foods.
