At this weekend's barbecue, we're putting our best fruit forward.

Between the grill and the beach, Memorial Day is all about your buns.

Try these fruity mix-ins for a tasty burger that won't beef you up:

Add: Apples
Why: When Oprah tried a turkey burger made with diced Granny Smiths, she said it was the best she'd ever had.
Try: Make the one she raved about.

Add: Blueberries
Why: They add moisture to lean ground beef, but keep the taste neutral (so you can still add onions, ketchup, etc.).
Try: Experiment with these blueberry burgers.

Add: Cherries
Why: Not only do they make burgers juicy and slightly tart, but they also slow meat spoilage and help prevent the growth of HAAs (carcinogens formed during grilling).
Try: Make these cherry burgers with or without the relish.

Add: Pineapple
Why: You'll get a kick of Hawaiian sweet-and-savory flavor.
Try: Stuff the pineapple inside the patties before grilling.
