Back-To-Work Week: Take A Chill Pill

Send to a friend

In school we used to bounce back from an all-nighter by sleeping through the entire next day.

Nowadays? No such luck.

Instead, proactively protect your immunity from the stressors of every day life with these elementary steps:

Stay calm.
Combat stress by sipping a cup of Tension Tamer® (or any herbal, antioxidant packed) tea. Instead of candy, pop a capsule of Rhodiola, Ashwagandha or Siberian ginseng?they're “Adaptogens” (herbal anti-stress compounds) that balance cortisol, says Samia McNully, ND of Elephant Pharm. (Consult a naturopathic doctor first.)

Avoid germs.
Prevent the spread of cold and flu by washing hands (knuckles to wrists!) with hot water and soothing aromatherapy liquid soaps from Bath & Body Works in Tranquil Mint ($6) and Softsoap Lavender and Chamomile ($2.49) for at least 20 seconds (yes, longer than you currently do).

Take recess.
Heading outside for a break is ideal, but even quick mental vacations can help. Bring something back from your Labor Day trip (think: a photo or postcard) to keep on your desk as a reminder of relaxing times, says Paul J. Rosch, MD of the American Institute of Stress.
