Balancing Map

Send to a friend

Busy women talk about “balance” like it's the Holy Grail.

But according to time management expert Julie Morgenstern, you don't need a miracle?just a map.

In her book, Time Management from the Inside Out, Julie recommends creating a time map, a diagram of your schedule.

A time map helps you visualize how you're spending your time, so you can figure out where you have windows to spend on other “have-to's” and “want-to's”. According to Morgenstern, “The most beneficial reason to have a time map is that it ensures you maintain balance between the various departments of your life.”

The basics:

1. Create a chart with days of the week across the top, and waking hours down the first column.
2. Fill in all set commitments: board meetings, play dates, Pilates, etc.
3. Examine to make sure you're spending your time the way you want to, and make adjustments as necessary.

Now, enjoy the wonders of balance!
