Workout of the Month: Torch
These uplifting moves burn serious calories--and make you smile, too.
Confession: We're not the type to chant in yoga class. And we have the coordination of two-year-olds.
So when we were invited to test the new Torch class at Equinox, we got a little nervous. The workout is a combo of military drills, calisthenics and breakdancing--all with an empowering twist. It's based on a routine created by The BarTendaz to blast fat, sculpt sexy muscles and boost your energy. (Watch the workout here.)
When we saw how cut the instructors were, we put aside our doubts to give it a shot. And halfway through our Torch session, we went from scared (How the heck am I supposed to do that?) to smiling (Whoa, I just did a saluting pushup!). "People are doing things in class that they never thought were possible," says instructor Dyan Tsiumis.
