Toe the Line
These new shoes claim to be better than barefoot.
Research suggests that excess sneaker padding can cause sprains and strains. But the thought of pounding the dirty pavement sans shoes makes our toes curl.
Fila's new Skele-toes claim to mimic the feel-good benefits of going barefoot while protecting our tootsies. Think of them as flexible (but tough) socks, except there are four little slots for your toes. Your two smallest toes share a section, so it's easy to slip the shoes on and off. You can wear them while walking, biking, swimming or boating.
We took them for a spin one morning. They felt odd at first, but after an hour, we forgot we were wearing them. Our toes were slightly splayed, and the stretch seemed to ease our nagging foot pain. Bonus: They're about $15 cheaper than other barefoot brands.
