Can these brushes stop static cling?

In winter, we avoid taking off our hats for a hair-raising reason: static makes our strands stand straight up.

But since we discovered Cricket's static-free hairbrushes, we're regaining control. The line, which made its name in the hair-obsessed '80s, is experiencing a comeback among beauty experts. The brushes come in nine different styles and boast carbon-fiber bristles that are supposed to reduce friction and static during styling or blow-drying. And they all cost less than $10.

We asked four friends to try a Cricket on their tresses. The result? Three out of four gave it a thumbs up. "Unlike some of my expensive brushes, this didn't produce any static when I brushed my hair," one tester told us. "I'd definitely recommend it."
