What's cooking, good looking?

Cristina Urioste

Get this personal chef's healthy weekend.

Rasa Foods' founder, organic chef Cristina Urioste, shares this Ayurvedic-friendly recipe--and tells us what else she's got cooking:

  • Try these root veggies.

Get to the root of things.

"Weiser Family Farms [at Santa Monica farmers' markets] has the most beautiful produce. Their heirloom potatoes are outstanding, and I've gotten delicious golden beets from them, the last two weeks." (See the crops here.)

  • Bean there, done that.

    Shop like a chef.

"I prepare a lot of Indian-inspired dishes, so I go to Samosa House for split mung beans (pictured), basmati rice and spices, including green cardamom pods, whole cumin, and coriander seeds."

  • Hit the trail.

    Step lively.

"One of my favorite hikes is Paseo Miramar in the Santa Monica Mountains. Getting out in nature is crucial to my well-being; it makes me feel so alive, plus it's a great way to spend time with friends."

  • Have mat, will travel.

    Keep moving.

"I like to change things up with my yoga practice, so I go to a handful of different studios depending on where my favorite teachers are, including Annie Carpenter and Hala Khouri at Exhale, Alex Westmore at The Yoga Collective, and Jo Tastula at Exhale."

  • Discover this hidden sanctuary.

    Beat a retreat.

"Most weekends, I'm teaching cooking classes, so I'm preparing for that. I just visited the gorgeous Udaya Retreat Sanctuary in Malibu where my next event will be." (Get the details on Urioste's upcoming wellness retreat here.)
