Vital Spy: Krista Vernoff
The producer and author shares her kid-friendly, get-fit weekend.
As Executive Producer of Grey's Anatomy, you'd think Krista Vernoff must be health-minded...and you'd be right. But it wasn't always that way. Her book The Game On! Diet, co-written with Body-for-Life Million Dollar Champion Az Ferguson, shares her secrets for dropping weight and keeping it off. Her weekend:
-
Be inspired.
"Shane's Inspiration is a playground made to accommodate wheelchair-bound and able-bodied kids. I play tag with my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Coco, and chase her around the sandbox: that's a lot of organic, quality exercise." 4800 Crystal Springs Dr., Los Angeles, (818) 752-5676, MAP
-
Horse around.
"It's so nice to walk around the Hollywood hills. We bring carrots and apples and feed the horses. When you get to the top of Runyon Canyon, keep going four or five houses up, and there they are."
-
Baby herself.
"Dragonfly DuLou is a kids' boutique. Through the store to the back, there's a backyard with a basketball court, a trampoline enclosed in mesh, and music classes. We play and then jump together on the trampoline." 2066 Hillhurst Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 665-8448, MAP
-
Act natural.
"A lot of people don't know that on the side of Nature Mart is a bulk area where they make smoothies. Caribbean Summer is a great one: pineapple and coconut juice blended with banana, strawberry and ice." 2080 Hillhurst Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 660-0052, MAP
-
See the light.
"Skylight Books has a great kids' section. Coco and I sit together and read. I walk with her one way to the store, then carry her a mile back home--we get exercise and quality time." 1818 North Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 660-1175, MAP
That's the name of the game.
